Paint on glass

Here's an animation I did for an experimental animation course. It was done by painting on glass with water-based oil paints and smudging the paint between frames. It was actually one of the easiest animations I've done, despite appearances. I got to fingerpaint and feel like a kindergartener again. It probably took me a total of fifty hours to complete.

Here's a link to the Edgar Allen Poe poem I based the animation on.

This animation thing is taking too long.

I was a Film major at NYU, yet upon closer inspection it turns out I took more courses in animation than I did any other kind of class. I never meant to do so much animation, but I had some really great teachers who encouraged me. I've been working on the same animation for seven months, and it's driving me CRAZY. I'm getting close to being finished, but every time I think I'm done I notice something else that needs tweaking. Anyway, here are some stills from what I've been working on.

Gene Kelly

These videos always cheer me up on days like today, when it's rainy outside, daylight savings screws you over sleep wise, and you've been at the office too long.
Here is my favorite.
Here is my other favorite.

Harold Lloyd

Harold Lloyd is perhaps my favorite actor of all time. He was so handsome and charming, and was such a good actor, both physically and emotionally. He sort of looks like Stephen Colbert in the top photo...

UPDATE: He definitely looks like Stephen Colbert:

Here is video from the famous clock scene in "Safety Last":

Erwin Olaf

I love these Mad Men-esque portraits by Erwin Olaf. View more here, under "Grief " and "Hope":

Starting Anew

So I keep finding myself e-mailing my family links to great photos and videos. I think from now on I'm going to try to share what I've been e-mailing on my blog, which hasn't seen an update in over 3 months-A fresh start.

The above photo is by Erwin E. Smith. You can find more photos by him here.
