Mary Blair
Mary Blair was an illustrator and art director who supervised art on a number of films for Walt Disney, including "Alice in Wonderland" and "Peter Pan." To me her artwork is pretty much perfection.
She also had amazing personal style, and was known for wearing very bright colors on a daily basis:
For more on Mary Blair, check out "The Art and Flair of Mary Blair: An Appreciation" by my fantastic animation professor at Tisch, John Canemaker.

Lord of the Rings in Egypt
I've been slowly getting the walls of my apartment decorated, and this past weekend I scanned a lot of photos from family albums so I could put them up. I've always liked this picture. I'm in Egypt, by the ruins of a tomb out in the desert, yet totally disinterested. If you look closely, you'll see that I'm reading "The Fellowship of the Ring" (or I guess you can sort of read "Tolkien" in big letters, but I know I was reading "Fellowship"). It cracks me up that I'm basically saying "Egypt. Whatever. I'm going to read a fantasy novel instead of paying attention to my awesome surroundings." Ah to be a teenager again.
The March Hare
Here is the video that I made with Philadelphia band "The March Hare"
We shot in upstate New York in November. It was great being able to work with such a great group, and even better to see an artistic collaboration my friend Zach and I had been talking about for years and years come to fruition.

Paint on glass
Here's an animation I did for an experimental animation course. It was done by painting on glass with water-based oil paints and smudging the paint between frames. It was actually one of the easiest animations I've done, despite appearances. I got to fingerpaint and feel like a kindergartener again. It probably took me a total of fifty hours to complete.
Here's a link to the Edgar Allen Poe poem I based the animation on.
This animation thing is taking too long.
I was a Film major at NYU, yet upon closer inspection it turns out I took more courses in animation than I did any other kind of class. I never meant to do so much animation, but I had some really great teachers who encouraged me. I've been working on the same animation for seven months, and it's driving me CRAZY. I'm getting close to being finished, but every time I think I'm done I notice something else that needs tweaking. Anyway, here are some stills from what I've been working on.
